Olympians for Peace in the Middle East potlucks welcome community members who want to work in solidarity with the people of the Middle East. This social event offers an opportunity for people to plug in to the emerging solidarity movement in Olympia during this time of dangerous misconceptions, war and occupation.

In the past month we helped plan the event Muslims of Thurston County Speak Out, attended by over 200 community members. We gathered signatures for a letter to The Olympian about anti-Muslim hate speech. A relpy has arrived! Please keep an eye on your Sunday paper to find out more about The Olympia on-line comment section and their current policy in publishing inflamatory language as we continue this crucial dialogue.

We are in the midst of planning events and actions for the coming months including a fundraiser for a local Lebanese-American filmmaker and Lebanon relief efforts. The event will take place at United Churches on Saturday, Sept. 30th and more information is forthcoming. Please join us with your ideas and energy.

To keep the potluck welcoming for everybody, mark dishes that combine dairy and meat or include pork or other animal products. Please refrain from bringing alcohol.
