Young people in America are often treated as if the Bill of Rights doesn't apply to them. In many schools, for instance, students’ writings are censored, backpacks and lockers are searched without reasonable suspicion, and low-income students are expected to learn in wretched conditions.
In this episode of The ACLU Freedom Files, you’ll meet young people whose rights were violated and who fought back.
Aaron Peckham created the slang Web site UrbanDictionary.com only to find that, under legislation being challenged by the ACLU, he could be jailed or fined for the site’s content.
Chloe Smith was terrorized at her middle school when a drug-sniffing dog found prescribed medication in her purse. She was suspended and nearly forced into a drug program, until she stood up for her right to privacy.
Join us as we meet, in this video, young activists working to educate their peers about the plight of teenagers in the juvenile justice system and the realities of military recruitment.
The American Civil Liberties Union and Robert Greenwald (Outfoxed, Unconstitutional) present The ACLU Freedom Files, a revolutionary, 10-part series that tells the stories of real people in America whose civil liberties have been threatened, and how they fought back.

Founded in 1931 as the Seattle ACLU Committee, the Washington State Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union has grown into one of the strongest and most successful state ACLU affiliates in the country.
The Bill of Rights would only be well-meaning promises if people did not fight to protect it. The ACLU is the nation’s premiere organization dedicated to defending and expanding all civil liberties and civil rights in America. Our job is to conserve America's original civic values - the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
The Thurston County Chapter of the ACLU-WA serves as the “eyes and ears” of the ACLU in Thurston County. We serve to educate the public on matters related to civil liberties, provide a local presence and help advance ACLU’s state and national priorities.
