Help enable folks in Olymia to speak to and hear directly from folks in our besieged unofficial Sister City, Rafah, Gaza Strip. We need everybody's help to help implement some of the great programs that we've planned and started. Please, there is no pressure to sign up for a boatload of tasks- we need participants to add their vote of confidence, help spread the word about our exciting work and lend advice from the artisian well of knowledge here in Oly.

We also need a Treasurer for our board of directors- we're a 501c3 corp. We have a bookeeper, so this isn't a check writing billpaying job, its supervising the implementation of our financial programs and requires attendance at 3 or 4 meeting per year and some contact with the bookkeper. International experience is a plus, and we guarantee you will gain more.

Over 380 Lebanese, 100 Palestinians, and 30 Israelis have been killed in the recent Mideast escalation. Over half a million Lebanese civilians have been dispossessed, and billions of dollars of civil infrastructure has been destroyed.
What information are we not getting from the media that is essential to understanding the situation? And how is the US directly contributing to the conflict?

The current situation

In Lebanon...

Over 150 Lebanese were killed by Israeli air strikes. Israel continues to bomb civilian infrastructure including factories, power plants, grain silos, and the only international airport. There is a sea blockade and Israel is targeting roads and border areas used by refugees and internationals attempting to leave Lebanon. This is the worst bombing in 24 years in Lebanon

The documentary film Gaza Strip by James Longley will be shown free of charge Tuesday, July 18th, 7-9 p.m. in the Luther Hall at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1515 Harrison Avenue NW, in Olympia. Longley traveled to the Gaza Strip in 2001 to spend a few weeks gathering material for a documentary film on the Palestinian intifada. But after the election of Ariel Sharon and as violence erupted around him, Longley threw away his return ticket and filmed in Gaza for the next three months. His film Gaza Strip is a journey into the lives of Gazans struggling with the day-to-day trials of occupation. According to The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, “Gaza Strip is an unflinchingly honest portrayal of a population under siege. As a perspective that is largely excluded from American attention, it deserves the widest possible audience.”
