The Pedestrian Interference Ordinance makes it a misdemeanor to sit down, lie down or panhandle "aggressively" in downtown Olympia. JOIN us as we picket 2 TIMES TODAY at 4th & Franklin and 5th & Capitol. 12-1:30 and 4:30-6:00.

The Ordinance makes it a misdemeanor to sit down, to lie down, or to panhandle "aggressively". The maximum sentence is 90 DAYS IN JAIL AND A FINE OF $1000. We will be picketing on 3 days from 12-1:30 and 4:30-6:00. JOIN US!

This will be a follow-up discussion to the January 26th Susan Greene presentation on mural art in Rafah. (See calendar listing.) Greene will join interested members of the Olympia Community to explore ideas for an Olympia-Rafah mural project and a proposed documentary about the creation of murals in both Olympia and Rafah, Rachel Corrie, and the struggle for justice in Palestine. Those interested are urged to share ideas for the project and to explore possibilities for their own participation.

The Dixie Chicks started a firestorm when lead singer Natalie Maines declared onstage at a 2003 London concert that she was ashamed that President Bush was from Texas, her home state. The group faced drastic consequences, including death threats and blacklisting. This is a "bracingly candid documentary portrait of the artists in a career-defining transition....It also happens to be a lot of fun."

The "Citizens' Hearing on the Legality of U.S. Actions in Iraq" will be held on January 20-21, 2007 in Tacoma, Washington two weeks before the February 5th court martial trial. Start time both dates is 10 am, sessions complete at 4 on Saturday and 3 pm Sunday. The hearing will present the case that Lt. Watada would, if allowed, make at his court martial. His defense attorneys maintain that the war on Iraq is illegal under international treaties and under Article Six of the U.S. Constitution. Further, Lt. Watada's defense argues that the Nuremberg Principles and U.S. military regulations require soldiers to follow only "lawful orders." In Lt. Watada's view, deployment to Iraq would have made him party to the crimes that permeate the structure and conduct of military operations there. Lt. Watada's pre-trail hearing is scheduled for January 4, 2007. A public support rally will be held at the gates of Fort Lewis, Washington that morning from 8-11am. Another rally will be held during his court martial, which begins on Feb. 5, 2007.

Lt. Watada's parents have been crossing the country, speaking in support of their son. Supporters have rallied outside the gates of Fort Lewis and across the continent. Recent community events to raise awareness and support for Lt. Watada's case have brought out standing room only crowds and gained more support for the lieutenant's stand against the war and occupation of Iraq.
